Devo for 07/14/2024 service- Bryan Vignery

In this weekend’s message, our speaker brought up the point that many times there is a difference between who we really are and who we “want” people to see.  He also made the point that the devil will try to counterfeit what God creates.

It is easy to tie these two points together.  Satan loves to lie to us about who we are, which is an attempt to counterfeit what God created.  Many times, he uses fear to do this.  He will lie to us with things like I’m not good enough, I don’t have what it takes, they don’t respect me, and here is a big one - what if someone finds out what I did…?

These lies are based on a fear of lack.  I lack the skills to be good enough, I lack respect, I lack trust that God is in control.  In fact, fear of lack was a big part of the original sin.  Adam and Eve had everything they needed in the Garden, including the Tree of Life.  But, they wanted the one thing they felt they lacked: truth and knowledge.

Fear is not necessarily a bad thing.  We should be a little fearful if we are trying to pet a rattlesnake on the head.  We should fear the Lord.  But when fear becomes irrational, it opens the door for satan and his cronies to poke at us.

Psalm 34:9-10 tells us “Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need.  Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,  but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing”

This message was a good reminder to spend time with the Father and ask him to show us where we are living in fear, and then ask Him WHY you are fearful.  Finally, let Him walk you through it so you can “lack no good thing”!

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
