Devo for 12/29/2024 service- Message by Pastor Jeff Collene
What a great message by Pastor Jeff to end 2024. He posed a good question for us to ponder at the beginning of the message: How can a baby born 2000 years ago, change my life? That is a good reminder to always focus on our testimony and be ready to testify how Jesus changed our lives!
Pastor Jeff also laid out things we could do to maintain a personal revival:
A spirit of expectation
A child-like faith
Spontaneous order
A burden for the lost
We should start every day eager to live with these four things in our hearts.
Pastor Jeff’s message got me thinking about the new year. Mainly about how many people are making resolutions. Most of the resolutions made are from the flesh; many people try to keep them in their own strength. The reality is most of these resolutions will be broken. A 2023 poll in Forbes found most people give up on their resolutions after less than four months.
This does not necessarily mean that resolutions are bad. In this context, resolution would mean “a firm decision to do or not to do something; being determined or resolute (Oxford).” The problem resides in what the resolution is and if we invite God into that resolution.
So, I would encourage everyone to ask God if they should make resolutions that impact their relationship with our Father. (My guess is He will say YES!) Here are some possible ones:
Commit to spending 20 minutes a day in solitude with God, letting Him do the talking.
Commit to eagerly running to God when things get tough.
Commit to eagerly running to God when things go good!
Commit to letting go of your junk and leaving it at the foot of the cross.
Commit to loving others more than yourself.
Remember, God is committed to your adoption and eternal life; the least we can do is commit to letting Him be first in our lives!
Happy New Year, friends!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
