Devo for 01/19/2025 service- Message by Pastor Zac Dinsmore
Pastor Zac gave a heartfelt message about pathways to God's presence. He pointed out in Exodus 13 that Moses stood on the promises of God and showed boldness in asking God to do what he promised. We may often think that God would react like a mere man would if asked in a bold tone. But our God, the good and perfect Father, is more than okay with us boldly asking him for what he promised us.
I processed the idea of asking God to boldly give me what He promised, I asked myself this question: “Do I get into the presence of the Lord and boldly ask Him for things that will let me grow in Him and also help me walk in a way that glorifies Him?”
I then began wondering what I have missed out on because I didn’t ask. What blessings could I have received by inviting God into a situation? What areas of my life have I struggled in because I did not ask?
I then wrote down words that represented promises God made to us. Here are just a few, along with the biblical promises:
Wisdom- This is one of those areas I know I need to ask God more often! And why don’t all of us make a habit of asking? His promise from James 1:5 is amazing!
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Patience- The Word encourages patience, and God promises to bless us when we are. Also, when we realize how patient God is with us, this becomes the truth: God will be patient with us for as long as it takes! I think all of us can benefit from boldly praying. “Lord, increase my patience as I wait for your direction!”
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7a
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.” Proverbs 15:18
Forgiveness- This includes both giving and receiving. We sometimes need help to both give, and receive, forgiveness. But the truth is we have forgiveness from God, and we are called to forgive others. Hard, but if we boldly lean on Him, it is doable!
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” Ephesians 4:32
Peace- In our busy world, anxiety, stress, and overwhelming schedules are potential cancers to having peace. We all need to believe and receive this verse! Ask God to help!
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27
I want all of these and more!
So, here is the challenge:
Get into God’s presence and ask Him to show you areas you feel you are lacking
Write them down and see what the Bible says is the promise and the truth
BOLDLY petition the Lord to give you what He promised!
I know we will all be better for doing so!!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
