Devo for 08/11/2024 service- Message by Pastor Jamey Santo

Pastor Jamey hit it out of the park with his sermon on Honor this past weekend.    As he pointed out, Honor is always about the other person and being honorable means treating others like we treat Jesus.  Although honor is a word we toss around easily; I believe many times we “say” it more than we “do” it.

As Pastor Jamey spoke he mentioned Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves” Another version reads “Outdo one another in showing honor”.  I was drawn to this verse as it includes the term “one another”.  When I see a verse with “one another” in it, I immediately ask myself, “How am I doing with that command?”

In my bible, the section of Romans that verse 10 is in has a heading of Christian Ethics.  I believe it could also be titled “How Live Like an Honorable Christian”.  Just look at how it says we should live:

“Love must be without hypocrisy” v.9

“Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer” v.12

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse” v.14

“Be in agreement with one another.  Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation.” v.16

“If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone” v.18

“Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good” v. 21

Each of these is encouraging.  Each of these esteems others.  Each of these requires us to make it about the other person.  And I believe each of these meets the definition of honoring others.

Remember this quote from Pastor Jamey, “Dishonor breaks down, Honor Heals”.  We should all take time and check ourselves on how we are doing with our christian walk.  The best way to do that is to get in the presence of Father and ask Him.  Then be obedient in His reply!

So, how are you doing with honor?

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
