Devo for 08/04/2024 service- Message by Austin Bergsma

Pastor Austin had a great message this weekend and brought up the idea of “childlikeness”.  The story is recounted in the gospels and is a command from Jesus.  In Mark 10:15 Jesus declares “Whoever does not welcome the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”   I believe Jesus was saying we need to look up to God and be eager to understand Him just as a child would be for his Dad.  In other words, we should be inquisitive and full of awe and wonder when we come to God.

As men, our problem with this can come about when things in our lives become callous and routine.  (I love that Pastor Austin used those terms as they get right to the point!)    Our busyness and pursuit of things we lack can harden our hearts and cause us to overlook the opportunity we have to live as His children in His Kingdom.   This will eventually lead us to try living our lives on our own.

Jesus not only explains the heart we should have for God, but he also shows us that approaching Him with the heart of a child will result in blessings! Mark 10:16  says Jesus “took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them, and blessed them.”

Men, ask yourself this:  Am I eager to get into the presence of God?  When I am in His presence, am I approaching him in awe of his power and authority?   Do I look at God as my good and perfect Father?

Take your answers to Him and be intentional about getting into his presence with the humility, eagerness, and awe of a child who is looking at his Hero!!!  Make God your hero and the blessings will abound as He is faithful with His promises!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
